Title: Carmel Market

Location: Tel Aviv

Description: We spent this first day close to the hotel because it was Erev Shabbat and all the stores would be closing at 2PM. We walked up Allenby Street, following the map, to Shenkin Street. Along the way we came upon the *Shuk* Carmel Market. Consisting of one long street with side branches, we got caught up in preparations for Shabbat. There was food everywhere as well as people calling out orders for their dinners. The first section was only dry goods but after that came the food. Up the alley we caught the butcher burning feathers off the chickens. They didn*t seem to have any refrigeration. Along the way was the Yemenite Quarter which hides a score of cheap eateries offering shwarma and skewered meats, all kosher. This was our introduction to Israel. We loved it!
