Title: The Wailing Wall

Location: Jerusalem

Description: Mirror of the soul, at the foot of the Dome of the Rock, stands the imposing Kotel Maaravi, The Wailing Wall. The name refers to the tears of generations of worshipers that grieved for Solomon's lost temple. No other place is worshipped more by the Jewish People: Since the times of the Roman occupation, followed by the Diaspora of the Jews, the people come here to pray. This sacred place is an open-air Orthodox synagogue, and men have to cover their heads. Because Orthodox tradition doesn't allow men and women to pray together, the wall has been divided onto two parts. The cracks between the massive stones are filled with slips of paper bearing prayers, the swaying and praying of the devout, leave no doubt of the powerful hold this place has on the minds and hearts of many Jewish people.
